Chief Justice Ann Timmer, a former member of CCJSCA, has brought valuable innovation to the Arizona judiciary since her appointment to the bench. Notably, she has expanded the Arizona appellate courts’ social media presence in a meaningful and strategic way to enhance public understanding and engagement.

In this session, Chief Justice Timmer shares a practical “GEM” outlining how she successfully leveraged social media as a tool to promote transparency, accessibility, and awareness of the Arizona Appellate Courts.

PRESENTER

Chief Justice Ann A. Scott Timmer joined the Arizona Supreme Court in 2012. She was elected by her colleagues as Vice Chief Justice in 2019 and was sworn in as Chief Justice in July 2024 for a five-year term.

Prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court, she served on the Arizona Court of Appeals for 12 years, including three years as Chief Judge. Before joining the bench, Justice Timmer practiced law in Phoenix, concentrating primarily on commercial litigation. Justice Timmer earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, her Juris Doctor (magna cum laude) from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, and a Master of Judicial Studies from Duke University School of Law. She currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for the National Conference of Bar Examiners, is a member of the American Law Institute, and acts as liaison to the ABA House of Delegates for the Conference of Chief Justices.

Her many honors include being named one of Arizona’s Most Intriguing Women (2022), an ABA Journal and ABA Center for Innovation “Legal Rebel” (2021), Arizona Capitol Times Woman of the Year (2020), and induction into the Maricopa County Bar Association Hall of Fame.
