Conference Registration & Information
Thank you to all who attended the Annual Conference in the Meadowlands, N.J. And to those of you who were unable to attend, here are a few of the highlights you missed.
The theme was “The Courts, the Media, the Public: Building Bridges.”
Once again, to those who brought books, thank you for embracing our book outreach program for the York Street project. I know we have made a difference to many of the children who attend the day care/ learning center. You gave over 100 books, and the most amazing thing is that there were no duplicates. It’s as if we all chatted beforehand! For the past several years we have asked attendees to bring books (age 6 and under) for an inner-city center. Judge Carmen Messano selected a wonderful center who so appreciated that we care about the communities who host our conference.
There was so much packed in to the few days we are together- it’s hard to believe how much we did. There was 13 hours of CJE; nuts-and-bolts programming; thought provoking discussions; and a look back at trials of the century that evoked enormous media and public interest. We had a fabulous trip to Ground Zero where we will have a special docent tour, thanks to Florida Chief Judge Robert Gross . After the visit to Ground zero, a good time was had in NYC- Broadway shows, dinners, and other “touristy” things.
And the wonderful social activities for guests. The final cruise around northern New Jersey and NYC started out bleak- rain, rain, and more rain. Then the sky cleared. The sights from the boat were spectacular; the Statue of Liberty practically an arm’s reach away reminded all of us why we do what we do; and the food and dance was fun.
Next year in North Carolina will be terrific and the planning has begun. Judge Morris Silberman has corralled a great education planning committee and the session ideas are already in progress. Judge John Martin has scoped out fabulous locations. Mark your calendar- Saturday, November 12 to Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Cary North Carolina. Please spread the word to others who were not able to attend this year and let them know what great time they can expect and the camaraderie they will enjoy.
Materials from the conference are available below. Videos from the conference will be coming soon.
