Mary Jane Trapp – Eleventh District Court of Appeals, Ohio
The Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal honors the life and legacy of Mary Jane Trapp of Ohio, a distinguished jurist and dedicated leader whose career reflected excellence in both private practice and judicial service. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College and Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Judge Trapp earned national recognition for her legal skill, integrity, and leadership, including serving as President of the Ohio State Bar Association.
Judge Trapp served on the Eleventh District Court of Appeals and as a visiting judge across Ohio, bringing deep knowledge and experience to the bench. Within the Council, she provided exceptional leadership, most notably as Chair of the Education Committee from 2021 to 2024, and as a member of the Annual Conference and Executive Committees. In recognition of her lasting impact, she was inducted into the Council’s Hall of Fame in 2025.
Remembered for her kindness, fairness, and unwavering integrity, Judge Trapp’s contributions to the judiciary and the Council will endure. She is deeply missed, and the Council extends its heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
